Napoleon Perdis vouchers not valid after company went into administration

Napoleon Perdis fans who were hoping to use their gift certificates to pick-up a bargain in the company’s sale will be disappointed to learn the vouchers are not being honoured.

Hundreds of products are on sale, just one day after the Australian cosmetics company went into voluntary administration.
Scarborough resident Laura Woolley said she received a $75 voucher as a Christmas present and after hearing the news yesterday tried to shop online.

She said the website did not accept her voucher and today tried to use it instore but was told the company was no longer accepting the gift certificates as payment, and nor would they offer her a refund.

“It’s not right to take our money and then not give us the products,” Ms Woolley said.

“It’s frustrating to be in this situation.”

She said it angered her to see plenty of stock on sale but she wasn’t allowed to have products to the value of what she had already technically spent.

Ms Woolley said she was told people who had bought vouchers to get their make-up done would also be caught up in the issue.

Napoleon Perdis was contacted for comment.

A quick scan of the company’s website indicates there are plenty of bargains to be had, with some make-up kits reduced by as much as $50.

The Iconic Skin Pack is on sale for $129, down from $188 — a $59 saving.

Lipsticks, eye-shadow palettes and foundations have had at least $10 knocked of the price.

The decision to go into administration was made after company directors had been trying to find a buyer for months.

The struggling brand was created in 1995 by high-profile Australian makeup artist Napoleon Perdis, who started with a concept store in Sydney before extending the company overseas in 2004.

Over the years Napoleon Perdis has appeared on TV shows such as Australia’s Next Top Model and he even stared in his own reality show Get Your Face On in 2008.

Perdis splashed his multimillion-dollar fortune on luxury properties including on in Sydney’s Double Bay, as well as a $6 million home in the Hollywood Hills.

Competition with the likes of Mac and the entry of stores such as Mecca and Sephora may have contributed to the line’s troubles. Perdis said tough retail conditions led to the collapse.
