The Mayor of Dire Dawa City Administration, Ibrahim Ousman, resigned from his post as of today and was replaced by Mahadi Gire, The Reporter has learnt from the City Administration's Communications Bureau.

Ibrahim, who is a member of Ethiopian Somali People Democratic Party (ESPDP), has been serving as mayor of Dire Dawa for the past three and half years. Following his request to leave his post, the council of the city administration has accepted his resignation and appointed Mehadi as the new mayor of the city.

It is to be recalled that recently the city has witnessed protests and ethnic induced conflicts. Moreover, many were demanding for a change in the way power is distributed among different ethnic groups in the city.
