A MAN has died following an assault outside a cinema in Sheffield.

A murder investigation is underway into the death of the man, who is believed to be in his 20s, South Yorkshire Police said.

Officers were called to reports of a fight and a man being assaulted outside the cinema at Valley Centertainment last night, according to the force.

Upon arrival shortly before 9.30pm, cops "discovered patches of blood but no victim".

Cops were then notified that an injured man had been taken to Northern General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

South Yorkshire Police said: "Formal identification and a forensic post-mortem examination is yet to take place. The man is believed to be in his 20s.

"Six men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder overnight. They are in police custody this morning."

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “I’d urge anyone who was in the area yesterday evening who may have witnessed anything to get in touch.

“Please call 101 quoting incident number 950 of 21 September 2018, or call Crimestoppers to give information anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
