A MUM-of-two got the shock of her life when she came across a drunken stranger fast asleep on her sofa.

Fortunately, the mum described the man as “polite” and had only gone there as his parents lived there two years before.

Elaine McDade, 43, had been watching TV in bed with her children on Saturday night in Glasgow, Scotland, when she popped downstairs for a drink.

After hearing some noise in her living room, she looked through the door to discover 26-year-old Thomas Airlie, an engineer from South Lanarkshire, in an alcohol-induced slumber on her couch.

The lad had let himself in the wrong house and gone to sleep on her couch - but not before taking his shoes off at the door and helping himself to a drink from the fridge.

Elaine claims she woke the 'apologetic' man immediately before her husband dropped him off at the nearest Asda because he couldn’t remember where he lived.

The dance teacher later discovered that she had forgotten to lock the door for the first time and Thomas had later drunkenly entered after getting a taxi there as it was his parents' former home.

Elaine said: “He even took his shoes off at the back door. He was a very polite guy.

“I’d just arrived back from London that night and my husband was at work.

“I was in bed with the kids on Saturday night and got up to make myself a drink.

“We were watching TV for about an hour and a half. I don’t know if he was already in the house by then.

“Later on I went back downstairs and that's when I saw him fast asleep."

Thomas, who had been out with a group of friends, was happily snoozing on Elaine’s corner sofa when he was woken by the homeowner.

He had left his friends at around 11pm that night and is got in a taxi back to his parents' old house instead of his current home.

Elaine claims she called Stephen and he drove Thomas to the nearest Asda as he'd forgotten where he lived.

Elaine said: “When I saw him I woke him up straight away. I even asked him if he used to live here, or if he lived in the same street now and had just got the wrong door.

“I phoned my husband and he agreed to take him home but he didn’t even know where he lived so he dropped him off at Asda instead.

“There was a lady who knew his parents and she said she couldn’t believe what had happened.

“She sent him the photo and I got a message from him on Facebook saying ‘oh my god, I can’t apologise enough.’

“After seeing the picture, he found it funny. He saw the funny side and he was very apologetic.

“To be honest, even just by the way he was lay, I could see he was just a normal guy who’d had too much to drink.

“I knew straight away he was just p*****. I knew he wasn’t an intruder or a ‘down and out’.

“If that was the case I would just have grabbed the kids and went outside.”

Thomas's pal Robbie McKean said: "Our friend had a baby boy not long ago so we were out wetting the baby’s head and we basically had a free night so we overindulged a wee bit.

"I can happily say he doesn’t walk into people's houses and sleep on their couch on a regular basis and our group will most definitely never let him forget it."
