A MUM got 99 threatening letters from her old council saying she owed £10 — a fraction of the cost of sending them.

Emma Delaney, 42, got back from holiday to find the huge pile of post.

She opened them and realised they were all duplicates, telling her she owed the money for a house rent scheme up to 15 years ago.

They warned if she didn’t pay up she would be taken to court.

But when Emma, of Englefield Green, Surrey, called Richmond council, South West London, she was told they were sent in error and she owed nothing.

The cost of sending the letters is estimated to have cost up to £50.

Emma said it related to a house where she lived in 2003.

She added: “I’ve no idea how this could have happened. It’s such a waste of money.”
