Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the Argentine media reports on the disclosure of the scheme with the supply of drugs through the Russian diplomatic mission in this South American country. According to Zakharova, it is a joint operation of Russian and Argentine law enforcement agencies, as a result of which the channel of supply of a large consignment of cocaine from Argentina to the European market was suppressed.

She specified that as a result of the operation, suspects were detained - citizens of both states. In relation to them, an investigation is underway.

"The cargo in question was found ready for shipment a year and a half ago in one of the auxiliary buildings of the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires - a school-residential complex. As it was established, he belonged to the finished by that time business trip under a fixed-term employment contract to a staff member of the technical staff of the institution, "Zakharova specified.

She clarified that information on the detection of bags with suspicious content on the initiative of the Russian ambassador to Buenos Aires Victor Koronelli and in consultation with the Center was handed over to the leadership of Argentine law enforcement agencies. The representative of the Ministry did not disclose details of the operation, noting only that "the achieved result allows us to state the suppression of the supply channel."

"As for the speculation that appeared in the media that the said cargo could have been sent using diplomatic channels, we would like to note that such a statement of the issue shows ignorance of the mechanism and the order of the direction of the dispatch, the content of which is determined, of course, not by the technical personnel of the mission. I'm surprised at how this topic is covered by "experts", some of them agreed that the case "casts a shadow" on our diplomatic mission. Everything is exactly the opposite: the success of this operation was provided by the effective actions of the Russian ambassador and diplomatic staff, "Zakharova concluded.

On the eve of the Argentine newspaper Todo Noticias reported that Argentine law enforcement agencies disclosed the scheme of drug delivery through the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires. It was reported that 12 suitcases with cocaine with a total weight of 389 kg of narcotic were found on the territory of the diplomatic mission. The publication wrote that the operation lasted more than a year, and the beginning of it was put by the call of the Russian ambassador, who reported the discovery of a suspicious cargo in one of the embassy buildings. The newspaper also stressed that the operation was conducted jointly with Russian law enforcement agencies.
