It’s the latest food craze sweeping Facebook — and unless you’re in on the secret, you don’t know what you’re missing out on.

More than 80,000 people across the country have signed up to a Facebook group started less than a year ago, which shares tips, tricks and recipes for the humble Kmart pie maker.

The kitchen appliance retails at just $29 a pop, and the ideas in the Kmart Pie Maker Recipes, Tips and Ideas Australia group are taking creativity to another level.

From poached eggs, to a vanilla slice pie to leftover KFC — no idea is too far fetched.

Page administrator Lisa, who founded the page with her cousin Nat, told PerthNow they had no idea just how quickly their idea would grow.

“Nat bought a pie maker first, and we saw some people sharing ideas on one of the Kmart Mums Facebook pages and we thought ‘why not start one of our own?’

“I actually didn’t even have a pie maker when we initially started the page,” she said.

That was 10 months ago — since then, the page has grown to have more than 80,000 members sharing tips, tricks and outlandish recipes.

Lisa said maintaining the page required a significant amount of effort, and they had no affiliation with or kickbacks from Kmart.

“Some days I will need to log in and check the page about 20 times, but we can’t be on it all the time,” she said.

The group can grow by up to 1000 new members a day when popular recipes are shared.

A Kmart Australia spokesperson said the company was “delighted” to watch customers sharing their “creative meal ideas”.

Five of the Best Crazy Kmart Pie Maker Creations

5. Taco cups — If you love tacos, and you love wontons (and if you don’t, why are you reading this article?) combine taco-seasoned mince, corn kernels and onion in a wanton wrapper. Top with smashed avocado, sour cream and sweet chilli. Amaze.

4. Full cooked breakfast — Because why stop at just making pies in your pie maker? ‘Poached’ eggs, cooked tomato and mushrooms is a very well-balanced start to the day. And if you feel like a little more meat, you could always substitute one of the veggies for bacon.

3. Beef Wellington pies — Take the most gourmet of gourmet foods, and make it into a pie. Genius. Fry your beef fillet in a pan, let it cool, then top with mushrooms and pate before encasing in puff pastry.

2. KFC pies — We’ve all felt that immense sadness when you just can’t get through all the delicious, greasy goodness that is KFC chicken. Well, grieve no more, because now you can turn all those yummy leftovers into a delicious pie! Combine the chicken (original or hot ‘n’ spicy) with some KFC potato and gravy, then wrap pastry around it and stop the awful scourge on our planet that is KFC wastage.

1. Vanilla slice pies — We know what you’re going to say. Vanilla slices are already the perfect baked goods, why change them? Trust us, making vanilla slice pies is the life goal you never knew you wanted to achieve. Combine instant vanilla pudding mix, cream, milk and pastry. Dust the finished product with icing sugar — or with icing if you’re more adventurous — and the end result will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about life.
