A MAN left blinded and disfigured after his ex poured acid over him has welcomed a baby son after finding love with his carer.

Daniel Rotariu, 33, was asleep when deranged Katy Leong poured sulphuric acid over him in 2016 after he refused to let her get into his bed.

But two years on, Daniel has moved on - finding love and happiness with partner Anna and their new baby boy David.

And the family - including Anna's son six-year-old Jack - is now looking to the future that includes a wedding next year.

Daniel said: "Two years ago I was in hospital and I spent my birthday with the doctors and nurses

"At that time, because of how I look and my blindness, I never thought someone would be able to love me and that I would have a family with them.

"But I am very happy in this moment."

He said they had been planning their wedding but postponed it due to the happy arrival of David.

But the plans have again resumed, with the couple planning to tie the knot in May next year.

Daniel said: "He is four months old now and he’s a lovely little boy. I am so happy."

Daniel suffered burns to 32 per cent of his body and was blinded in both eyes after being attacked by Katie Piper obsessed Leong.

Katie lost the sight in one eye when she had acid thrown in her face in 2008 in an attack organised by her ex, Danny Lynch.

Leong, who had a biography about Katie by her bed, had even practised pouring acid on sausages before attacking Daniel at their home in Leicester.

Leong was jailed for life after being found guilty of attempted murder and will serve at least 17 years.

After the attack, Daniel spent six months in hospital undergoing life-saving treatment, which included 20 operations.

But it was during his road to recovery, that Daniel met Anna after being transferred to supported living accommodation.

He said: "I was discharged from hospital in January 2017. I had been in there a long time.

"They put me in supported accommodation and Anna was working there as my carer.

"We’ve been together since February 2017 – just after Valentine’s Day.

"Because of her job we could not be together, so after we had been together for a couple of months, she quit her job and we moved in together.

"We are very happy together."

The news comes after Daniel said he was planning on suing cops - claiming officers failed to act on information which could have prevented the incident.

The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) said cops had received reports that Leong was "acquiring acid to carry out a premeditated attack on an unnamed third party".

But a probe found Leong, who fantasised about throwing acid at someone and kept model Katie’s autobiography by her bed, was not contacted.

Daniel told the Guardian: "They received information that Katie was acquiring acid but they just closed the file and did nothing.

"I'm living in a prison of darkness. It took away my independence, my ability to work.

"It took away my sight, I will never see my fiancee and my baby's face."

Leicestershire Police told the paper they are aware of the legal proceedings, but declined to comment further.
