MOSCOW, February 21. / TASS /. Detachments of the people's militia, fighting on the side of the Syrian army, occupied the fighting positions on Wednesday in the Kurdish region of Afrin (65 km from Aleppo).

This was reported by the television channel Al Mayadeen referring to the command of the Kurdish "People's Self-Defense Forces" (SNA). According to him, the number of Syrian fighters sent to Afrin to repel the Turkish troops is over 400 people.

On Tuesday, the Syrian SANA news agency reported that militants on the side of the Syrian army began to arrive in Afrin from Aleppo. As the agency noted, "militiamen are sent to this city to support the resilience of its residents in the face of aggression by the Turkish regime."

In Ankara, they reacted negatively to the actions of Damascus. The official representative of the Turkish president, Ibrahim Kalyn, warned on Wednesday about the "serious consequences" of possible attempts by Syrian government or pro-government forces to enter Afrin.

Turkey announced on January 20 about the beginning of the operation "Olive Branch" against Kurdish forces in the north of Syria. According to the Turkish General Staff, the armed forces managed to liquidate for the month 1 thousand 780 terrorists, to which the SNA fighters are included in Ankara.
