A Colorado man was convicted of poaching a mountain lion after a months-long investigation into illegal hunting and outfitting in the state, officials said on Thursday.

Andrew Pashley, 35, pleaded guilty to the illegal sale of big game wildlife and illegal possession of a mountain lion in Denver last month, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Pashley used hounds and a truck for the illegal hunting. He took a $3,000 payment from another Colorado man in January of 2017 to track and kill the animal.

“Illegal and unethical actions like what Mr. Pashley participated in put a black eye on hunters, outfitters and houndsmen,” CPW Wildlife Officer Joe Nicholson said.

“Pashley’s actions are those of a poacher, not a hunter, and it is good to bring somebody like Pashley to justice.”

He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and a court-ordered suspension of all hunting, fishing and trapping-related activities in Colorado.
