A MAN has died this morning in a horrific four-vehicle pile-up on the M6.

Police were called to the collision on the northbound carriageway, between Junction 2 for Coventry and Junction 3, in the early hours of today.

Warwickshire Police said the victim was aged in his 40s.

Both carriageways were closed as emergency services attended the scene.

The road has since been reopened southbound, but remains shut northbound.

Drivers are advised to take alternative routes.

Superintendent Emma Bastone said: "We know this is likely to cause significant disruption to motorists this morning and I would like to thank them for their patience and say we are doing all we can to re-open the road as soon as we can.

"This was a serious collision in which sadly a man has died and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

"We do have diversions in place however there will be delays and we would therefore ask motorists if they can find an alternative route."
