A MAN has died after a "commotion" in a Chinese takeaway as neighbours heard "seven hours of screaming".

Witnesses said a man with a head wound was taken away in handcuffs from China Chef Chinese Takeaway in the sleepy village of Brockenhurst in the New Forest, Hants., yesterday afternoon.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed a man died at the scene and arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

One local said: “There was screaming and shouting the morning from 6am.

“The police didn’t arrive until 1pm.

“They rushed in and were in there in there for about an hour. A man was led out in handcuffs.”

Another witness added: “We saw police arrive early this afternoon and had no idea what was going on.

“The arrested man had a head wound and was brought out in handcuffs and taken to an ambulance.

“After a couple of hours he was taken away in a police car."

Police remained at the scene for the rest of the day.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Just after 1pm on 20 August officers were called to a man in need of medical assistance at an address on Brookley Road.

"The man subsequently died at the scene.

"The cause of death is not known at this time and an investigation is ongoing.

"A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody."

Brockenhurst sits in the heart of the New Forest, which is visited by around 13.5 million visitors every year.
