A MAN has died after his throat was slashed by a crossbow bolt in a sleepy Devon village.

Cops scrambled to Braunton, near Barnstaple, on Friday afternoon following reports of a domestic incident.

Police officers found the man, in his 40s, in a critical condition before he was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

A woman, also in her 40s, was found with a leg injury, but her condition was described as not life threatening.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the case was "isolated and contained".

The male victim died on Sunday, officers confirmed.

Det Insp Phil Gray, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said officers were "working hard to clarify the circumstances".

They are not seeking anyone else in connection with what happened.

He said: "Families are both being supported by police and enquiries are continuing."

Footage which emerged from the scene showed a Devon Air Ambulance helicopter landing in the quiet village.

Cops left a cordon around the area in place for the remainder of the evening.
