A MAN accused of a random attack on two police officers in Richmond has been released on bail.

The officers were speaking to a man on Victoria St about 2pm when another man approached and suddenly began punching them, police say.

Police had to use capsicum spray to arrest the alleged offender, who has been charged with two counts each of resist arrest, assault emergency worker and obstruct police.

The male officers — a constable and senior constable — suffered cuts and bruises and were taken to hospital, but have since been discharged.

The accused man, a 26-year-old from Tarneit, has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 14.

Investigators want to speak to the man police were originally talking to, and have urged anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
