'Mad-dog' Mattis Warns: "If You Threaten Us, It Will Be Your Longest And Worst Day"

Retired Marine general and U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis is no stranger to strong talk (and strong actions) but, as The Daily Caller's Justin Caruso reports, 'Mad-dog' put America’s enemies on notice while speaking before the House Armed Services Committee this week...

“If you threaten us, it will be your longest and worst day.”

“Our first line of effort emphasizes that everything we do must contribute to the lethality of our military,” Secretary Mattis stated. “In war, an enemy will attack a perceived weakness. Therefore, we cannot adopt a single pre set of warfare. If deterrence fails, we must win.”

“To defend our way of life, our military will embrace change while holding fast to traditional proven attributes that make us the most formidable force on any battlefield. Those who would threaten America’s experiment in democracy must know if you threaten us, it will be your longest and worst day."

“We will prioritize rebuilding readiness while modernizing our existing force,” he continued. “We will also be changing our force’s posture to prioritize readiness for war fighting and major combat, making us strategic predictable for our allies and operationally unpredictable for any adversary.”

Of course this is not the first time Mattis has been so quotable, as we noted in the past...

    “I don’t have concerns. I create them”

The quote follows in a long tradition of magnificent Mattis quotes, including his answer to what keeps him awake at night:

“Nothing. I Keep Other People Awake At Night.”

    And these classics:

“It’s quite fun to shoot them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people.”

“There are some assholes in the world that just need to be shot.”

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

The head of the Pentagon has sharply criticized the Congress for the situation with the defense budget

On Thursday at midnight, the next term of temporary financing of the US government expires

US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis strongly criticized the US Congress because of his failure to budget, which sets the level of defense spending in the current fiscal year.

Political disputes in Washington led to a partial closure of the government last month, a few hours after Mattis outlined a new strategy to fight threats to the country and outlined the resources needed to implement this strategy.

On Tuesday, Mattis gave testimony at a hearing in the Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives and stated the need for full funding of the defense budget needed to implement the new strategy. His statements were made shortly before a possible new partial "shatdown" - the closure of the federal government. On Thursday at midnight, the term of interim government funding expires. If by that time no new agreement on budget expenditures has been concluded, the financing of state institutions and state programs will be partially suspended for the second time this year.

"I ask you not to allow disagreements on domestic policy to continue to keep the defense of our country hostage," Mattis said on Tuesday at a hearing in the Committee. "We all know that America must provide itself with an opportunity to survive."

Mattis' remarks were made a few hours before a vote was taken on the budget bill in the House of Representatives. This bill proposes new temporary measures to finance most of the federal government, but will fully fund the Defense Ministry for $ 700 billion until the end of the current fiscal year.

It is expected that the bill will pass through the House of Representatives, but may be blocked in the Senate by Democrats, who oppose the consideration of military expenditures without taking into account internal non-defense expenditures.

Mattis said that without proper funding, the military will have to change its strategy to take greater risks, while they will continue to lose their advantages in every direction of ensuring the security of the country.

The chairman of the Armed Forces Committee of the House of Representatives, Republican MacTornberry, called Mattis' testimony "a sharp" and "most direct" warning he had heard about the need to adopt a budget.

Senior Congressman-Democrat in the Committee Adam Smith told Mattis that the government already has a debt of $ 21 trillion and needs a budget that can "match" the overall needs of the country.

On Tuesday at a briefing for the media, White House spokeswoman Sarah Hakabi Sanders said that despite the existing serious disagreements in the Congress over the procedure for adopting the budget, the goal of the current US administration remains the same - to seek a long-term budget document in the long term for a period of 2 years. This, according to Sanders, will help the military in solving problems of ensuring the security of the country.
