IT HAS been ranked among the best television shows and it left many wondering why The Wonder Years ended after only six seasons.

Now Alley Mills, who played child actor Fred Savage’s TV mother Norma Arnold, has shed some light on the decision to axe the award-winning show.

The actress told Yahoo! Entertainment that a “completely ridiculous sexual harassment suit that was going on against Fred Savage” brought down The Wonder Years.

The show, which aired until 1993, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next month and Mills has spoken out about the demise.

The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that 31-year-old costume designer Monique Long filed the lawsuit against teen star Savage and his TV brother Jason Hervey “claiming they verbally and physically harassed her daily”.

The accusations were denied but the lawsuit was dropped after a settlement was reached.

Mills said she was made about the “incorrigible” decision to pay out Long.

“They should never have paid her off. They wanted to avoid a scandal or something, but it made them look guilty,” Mills told Yahoo!.

“You don’t pay someone off when there was no crime, you just fire the girl.”

Mills described Savage as “the least offensive, most wonderful, sweet human being that ever walked the face of the Earth”.
