A tenant renting through Gumtree was left baffled and angry when his landlord kicked him out and dumped his property in garbage bags outside.

Yousef recorded the subsequent encounter with his landlord Lau, showing the latter laughing as the former pleads with him about not having a place to stay.

Yousef was sent packing from the room he rented after his girlfriend overstayed her welcome.

He agreed to move out on two weeks' notice, but after leaving the next morning Yousef came back to find himself evicted.

On camera, Lau is heard laughing and telling Yousef to go "wherever you go".

"I was really angry," Yousef said.

"It was hard to hold my temper. I just wanted to rage at him, but there was nothing I could do but to go on."

Lau paid Yousef back his bond and one week's rent but Yousef claimed he is owed money for the damage to some of his possessions.

Lau did not comment to A Current Affair but on the video can be heard claiming the law is on his side, after discussing the issue with a lawyer and police.

However, lawyer Richard Mitry told A Current Affair that despite the lack of a written lease agreement, the landlord had still not acted within the law.

"It's a fixed tenancy agreement and even though it wasn't in writing, at least 30 days' notice would've needed to have been given," he said.

Nonetheless, he urged other Gumtree renters to get written copies of their lease agreements.
