Kurds held a protest in front of the US Embassy in Nicosia

Representatives of the Syrian Kurdish diaspora in the Republic of Cyprus held a protest in front of the US Embassy in Nicosia. This is reported by the correspondent of TASS from the scene.

More than 100 people took part in the action. Syrian Kurds held placards in their hands and shouted slogans calling for the termination of the operation of the Turkish armed forces against the Kurds in Syria and withdraw the armed forces of Turkey from the territory of the country.

Cyprus law enforcement authorities cordoned off the venue of the rally and ensured the safety of its holding. The meeting passed without incident.

A similar protest action also took place later in the day at the Russian embassy in the Republic of Cyprus. Representatives of the Kurdish diaspora appealed to the Russian leadership with an appeal to influence Turkey with a view to ending the operation of the Turkish armed forces in Syria. There were also no incidents.

On January 20, the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces announced the beginning of Operation Olive Branch against Kurdish forces from the People's Self-Defense Forces (SNA) and the Democratic Union Party (DS) in the Syrian district of Afrin, home to about 1.5 million Kurds.
