AS MANY AS 35 Labour MPs are ready to back Theresa May’s Brexit deal, it was claimed last night.

Labour ‘Leaver’ John Mann told The Sun the number had grown from the tiny number who supported it in January – because of the prospect of a second EU referendum.

He said 70 Labour MPs opposed a new referendum –and “possibly half as many” would back the PM’s deal when it comes back to the Commons next week.

“When the deal comes before Parliament again, the clear choice will be the deal or a second referendum,” he said.

“The choice facing us all is either to deliver Brexit as we promised or to vote for a second referendum.”

Fellow Labour ‘Leaver’ Caroline Flint echoed her colleague yesterday by telling Sky News that as many as 30 would defy Mr Corbyn and back the Government if an “improved” offer came back on March 12.

She said: “If there was a free vote, a number, 10s, 20s, 30s would vote for an improved offer, I think that’s the reality.”

She added that many Labour MPs opposed to a second referendum “feel that we have to move on, we have to stop a no deal and if there’s an improved offer on the table, Labour should engage with that sincerely.”

LABOUR BREXIT CHAOS
Just 3 Labour MPs backed the PM’s deal when she suffered the biggest Commons defeat of modern times – losing by 230 votes.

But some 27 defied Jeremy Corbyn to side with the Government in February when Labour’s Yvette Cooper urged the Commons to adopt her plan to delay Brexit.

John Mann and Caroline Flint have been at the heart of talks with the Government over a new workers rights package – and extra cash for traditional Labour heartlands.

They claim both are critical to winning over MPs on the opposition benches.

A committment to match the EU on workers rights and environmental protection is expected to be confirmed by No.10 as early as Wednesday this week.
