Israel appealed to Russia for assistance to de-escalate tensions on the border with Syria, where an Iranian drone was shot down and an Israeli fighter that struck a neighboring country under tight anti-aircraft fire was lost, the Wye-No website reported.

The publication claims that in the message sent to Moscow, the Israeli authorities express their desire for an early settlement of the border incident and, on the example of today's events, again warn of the threat of Iran's military presence in Syria.

"Israel requested urgent Russian intervention in order to prevent escalation in the north." The appeal was one of the results of the emergency meetings held this morning by the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and representatives of the country's military and political establishment, "the publication notes.

"Israel made it clear to the Russian side that ... would prefer to consider the current incident to be exhausted and not interested in further escalating tensions," the newspaper writes.

A similar message was, according to his information, transferred to the United States.

Representatives of both Israeli embassies in Moscow and Russian in Tel Aviv do not comment on reports of bilateral contacts in connection with the incident. The press office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not available for communication.

The Israel Defense Forces did not respond to the question whether the emergency communication channel that existed between the Russian and Israeli forces since 2015 was involved, but stressed that the fire from the ground by aircraft was conducted exclusively by Syrian government forces without the participation of representatives of the Russian contingent.

On the night of Saturday, Israeli troops shot down an Iranian drone over the northern regions of the country and attacked the UAV base in the Syrian Palmyra area, faced with anti-aircraft fire and lost for an unacknowledged yet reason the F-16 fighter, one of the eight participating in the raid. His crew catapulted over their territory.

Following the results of the second day of the raid on Syria, the Israeli military reported on the destruction of 12 Syrian and Iranian facilities near Damascus, including anti-aircraft batteries, and the absence of new losses on its part.
