Irish woman dies after 20-metre plunge at Spanish airport

AN Irish woman has died after falling 20 metres at a Spanish airport on Saturday, December 22.

The incident occurred at Alicante-Elche Airport and the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the tragedy, according to the Irish Independent.

The woman, believed to be in her late 20s and from Arklow in Co Wicklow, fell 20 metres from a footbridge in a bus loading area according to local reports.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the woman was quickly taken to Elche General Hospital where she later died.

Spanish police, who have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, has yet to issue a comment surrounding the tragedy.
