New Zealanders are being urged to face up to reality, as the Internet Party puts decriminalising cannabis on the agenda.

It's still not formal policy, but is being put up for discussion.

Leader Laila Harre says her personal view is that it should be decriminalised, as cannabis is currently commonly used, but leaves thousands with convictions every year.

"Conviction for drug use can have significant ramifications on people's employment, on their ability to travel around the world and also on their exposure to the criminal justice system."
