A POLICE body camera has captured the terrifying moment a New Jersey police officer saved a man from an oncoming train.

The footage, uploaded to Facebook, shows Perth Amboy Police officer Kyle Savoia running towards a man in a red shirt on the tracks.

Officer Savoia can be heard yelling, “Hey bud, move! Stop the train, stop the train,” several times before the man moves out of the path of the oncoming train with just centimetres to spare.

The officer breathes a sigh of relief as the man runs to safety.

When officer Savoia asks the man if he’s OK, he sounds visibly shaken and is in tears.

“Where’d you come from? Thank you. Oh my God, thank you so much,” he said.

It is unclear what the man was doing on the train tracks at the time.
