TWO men at the centre of an alleged corruption ring inside Horizon Power have been charged.

WA Police said following a joint investigation with the Corruption and Crime Commission they had charged a 47-year-old North Coogee man with four counts of corruption and a 43-year-old Salter Point man with four counts of fraud.

The Corruption and Crime Commission released a report last week concluding with the opinion that Horizon IT manager Paul Thomas and contractor Anthony Raspa had conspired to use their positions at the WA electricity provider to send work to a company they secretly controlled.

It estimated the two men effectively paid themselves more than $200,000 in fees at taxpayers’ expense.

Evidence presented by the commission during public examinations of Mr Thomas and Mr Raspa show the latter also billed Horizon almost $1.2 million over the course of the four years he worked as a contractor for the organisation.

Both men are expected to appear at Perth Magistrate’s Court on October 1.
