Google says fix for Wi-Fi issue with Chromecast built-in devices coming today
Last week, we reported that an issue with devices like Chromecast dongle or Google Home is preventing WiFi networks from operating properly. Google quickly confirmed the problem, even before it came to light that the issue is widespread.
Now, the Mountain View company has announced that the fix for the problem will start rolling out via a Google Play services update today (January 18).
Here's how Google explained the problem:
"In certain situations, a bug in the Cast software on Android phones may incorrectly send a large amount of network traffic which can slow down or temporarily impact Wi-Fi networks. The specific impact to the network will vary depending on the router.
The company further added that those with an Android smartphone and a Chromecast built-in device on the same Wi-Fi network may experience this issue."
Until the fix reaches you, Google is suggesting users to try rebooting their smartphone, and check that their router firmware version is up to date.
