The birth of another endangered baby giraffe has been welcomed by conservationists at Australia Zoo, amid the rapid decline of the species in the wild.

Fewer than 100,000 wild giraffes remain in Africa, mainly in the south and east of the continent, and the species was officially declared endangered in late 2016.

Nine giraffes have been born at the Sunshine Coast zoo since 2011, and staff hope the newest addition will help increase awareness of the plight of species to the public.
