A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed after colliding with a car and another motorbike in Co Limerick today.

The man, 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident on the N69 between Glinn and Tarbert, known locally as the Coast Road, at 12.40pm.

The driver of the other motorbike, a man in his 20s, was rushed to Limerick University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No injuries were sustained by any occupants of the car.

Gardai have closed off the road for a technical examination.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N69 Limerick between Glinn and Tarbert on December 30, 2018, at approximately 12:40pm.

"A motorcyclist, man in his 50s, collided with a car and another motorcyclist, a male in his 20s.

"The man in his 50s has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"The man in his 20s was taken to Limerick University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

"No injuries were sustained by any occupant(s) of the car involved.

"The road remains closed for a Garda Technical Examination.

"Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly anyone who may have dash cam footage, to contact Gardaí in Newcastlewest on 069 20650."

AA Roadwatch are advising motorists to avoid the route.

A traffic update read: "The N69, locally known as the Coast Rd, is closed just outside Tarbert on the Limerick side following a serious collision.

"Avoid the route – take the N21 through Newcastle West or travel via Glin and Athea instead."

A man was also killed in Cork city this morning when the car he was driving crashed through a fence into a field.

The man, understood to be in his 30s and believed to be from Cork, was driving towards Cork city when the accident happened overnight off the R639, around 2km from Glanmire shortly after 7am.

Gardai, two ambulances and five fire brigade units from Midleton and Cork attended the scene after another motorist noticed the smashed fence.

But the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
