GARDA Superintendent Dave Taylor has been suspended following the Disclosures Tribunal findings.

The former head of the Garda Press Office was found to have lied to the tribunal and swore an affidavit to the High Court that was “entirely made up of nothing but lies”.

He has now been relieved of his duties and is facing internal disciplinary action, it has emerged.

A garda press office spokesman said: “A member of An Garda Siochana has been suspended from duty.

“An Garda Siochana do not comment on named individuals.

“As this is a disciplinary matter we will be making no further comment.”

The Disclosures Tribunal’s third interim report was published earlier this week and was extremely critical of Taylor.

Disclosures Tribunal Chairman Peter Charleton said it was an “utter mystery” as to why former commissioner Martin Callinan should have chosen him as a press officer.

He found that Taylor had lied in an affidavit when trying to stop a Garda disciplinary inquiry into him.

After Supt Taylor was moved from the Garda Press Office in 2014, he was investigated for leaking information to journalists.

Taylor was also found to have worked with Callinan on a “campaign of calumny” against whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has already said he accepts all of the findings of the Disclosures Tribunal report issued on Thursday.

He said he was “establishing a group to examine Mr Justice Charleton’s findings from policy, process, discipline and cultural perspectives to identify the lessons to be learnt and changes to be made”.
