A WOMAN is fighting for life after allegedly being battered in a road rage attack following a horror smash.

The 39-year-old was "taken unwell" after cops were scrambled to the crash between two cars in Redbridge, East London, last night.

She was given first aid before being rushed to hospital by the London Air Ambulance.

The woman is currently in a critical condition, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

They are now investigating whether she was assaulted by the male driver of a Toyota Yaris after her Kia Picanto collided with him.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is in custody at an east London police station.

Detectives are now trying to trace a witness at the scene of the horror at around 6.50pm yesterday.

He has been described as a white man and around 6ft 2ins tall.

They are also appealing for anyone who saw the collision or its aftermath to contact officers on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
