HUNDREDS of mourners have gathered for the funeral of Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan in her home town.

O’Riordan was laid to rest in her native Ballybricken, County Limerick, as family, friends and fans paid their respects to the 46-year-old, reports The Sun.

Ms O’Riordan died suddenly at a hotel in London last week, aged 46.

The service was held at Saint Ailbe’s church, where she once sang in the choir.

Her voice once again filled the church as a duet of Ave Maria sung by O’Riordan and Luciano Pavarotti marked the start of the service.

Mourners included O’Riordan’s bandmates, Ali Heswon, wife of U2’s Bono, and the singer’s boyfriend and fellow DARK band member Ole Koretsky.

O’Riordan’s ex-husband Don Burton and the couple’s three children — Taylor, Molly and Dakota — joined the singer’s mother Eileen, her sister Angela and brothers Terence, Brendan, Donal, Joseph and PJ in the small parish church.

She will be buried beside her late father, Terence, in a private family ceremony in nearby Caherelly cemetery following a funeral Mass.

Canon Liam McNamara said: “Her kind personality and beautiful singing voice earned for her numerous admirers. No words are adequate to describe Dolores or to accurately state the influence for good she has been over the years.”

As a further mark of respect Irish radio stations simultaneously played the band’s 1996 hit, When You’re Gone, after the midday news.

Candles lined the streets of her home town as her coffin was led to the church last night.

The singer and mother-of-three enjoyed huge success with the Cranberries in the 1990s with tracks including Zombie and Linger, and the band sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

An inquest into her death at London’s Westminster Coroner’s Court has been adjourned until April 3 while the coroner awaits test results. UK police says they are not treating her death as suspicious.
