A 23-YEAR-OLD man has today admitted to kidnapping and raping a British backpacker in a horrific two-month ordeal.

Marcus Allyn Keith Martin, who has tattoos across his face, was caught after the 22-year-old was rescued from the nightmare 900 mile road trip through the Australian outback.

Martin, who appeared via video link, pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and one count of deprivation of liberty at the Cairns District Court in north Queensland.

Police had alleged Martin, who has tattoos on his cheeks including tear drops, kidnapped the young woman and held her for two months.

It wasn’t until she drove off from a petrol station without paying in Mitchell, south-west Queensland, in March last year that she was rescued, ABC reported.

Staff at the petrol station raised concerns with police before she was picked up.

Petrol station owner Beverley Page previously said she spotted the distressed 22-year-old’s black eyes and bruised neck when she stopped to buy fuel in a remote town in Australia’s outback.

She said: “She was distressed, she was shaking, she was crying and that.”

She added the girl seemed to be in an “almost zombie-like” state.

Martin was allegedly found hiding in an alcove in the rear of the four-wheel-drive when police stopped the pair.

It had previously been claimed the pair met in Cairns on Australia Day last year before driving for nearly 900 miles.

Martin earlier pleaded guilty to supplying dangerous drugs, wilful damage, assault occasioning bodily harm and choking or strangulation.

Prosecutors discontinued ten of the charges following Martin’s guilty plea on Friday.

Martin has been remanded in custody.

A sentence date will be set in February 2019.
