IT WAS an Ethiopian double in the 2018 Dublin City marathon as Asefa Bekele and Mesera Dubiso took gold in the men’s and women’s races.

Around 20,000 people took part in the 39th year of the race as Bekele and Dubiso took home €12,000 each after taking home the titles.

Bekele crossed the finish line with a time of 2:13:23 while Dubiso also impressed with a time of 2:33:48.

The top Irishman in the race was Olympian Mick Clohisey who took home the Irish National Marathon title with a time of 2:15:57.

While Cork’s Lizzie Lee won the women’s Irish National Marathon title with a time of 2:35:04 – finishing third overall.

Johnboy Smith from England won the wheelchair race while Irishman Patrick Monahan came second.

Motorists are being advised that road closures will remain in place in parts of the city until 9pm this evening.

Luas services have also been delayed to allow participants cross the tracks.

Luas says: “Unfortunately due to the nature of the event we are unable to provide an exact time, the organisers and the Gardaí have informed us that they will work with us in an effort to reduce the impact on the line.”
