US President Donald Trump overnight tempered his enthusiasm about an expected summit with North Korean leader Kim Jung Un — saying that “maybe things will work out, and maybe they won’t.”

“We are a long way from conclusion on North Korea, maybe things will work out, and maybe they won’t — only time will tell …. But the work I am doing now should have been done a long time ago!” he tweeted.

At the same time, Trump also assailed “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd of Fake NBC” for suggesting that Washington is getting little in return for its negotiations with Pyongyang.

Todd “just stated that we have given up so much in our negotiations with North Korea, and they have given up nothing,” he said.

“Wow, we haven’t given up anything & they have agreed to denuclearisation (so great for World), site closure, & no more testing,” he added.

On NBC’s Today show Todd said Kim “seems to be giving very little but making it seem like he’s giving a lot.”

He added: “There’s not many preconditions the United States is asking for. So far in this potential summit, North Koreans have gotten a lot out of it.

“What has the United States gotten yet? We don’t have a release of any of those Americans that they held captive, we don’t have a pledge of denuclearisation as the ultimate goal. There’s a lot of things they are not promising that is raising some red flags.”

On Friday, Kim made the surprise announcement that his country will suspend all nuclear and missile tests in advance of the anticipated summit with Trump.

He also said he would shutter a nuke test site.

“This is very good news for North Korea and the World — big progress! Look forward to our Summit,” the president tweeted in response.

On Wednesday, he said that although he was optimistic about the prospect of a summit, he will pull the plug if he feels it’s “not going to be fruitful.”

“We’ve never been in a position like this with that regime, whether it’s father, grandfather or son,” Trump said at his Florida retreat of Mar-a-Lago.

“I hope to have a very successful meeting. If we don’t think it will be successful, we won’t have it. If it’s a meeting I don’t think will be fruitful, I won’t go. If when I’m there, and I don’t think it’s fruitful, I will leave,” he added.
