A PLAN to drop 130,000 balloons on to clubbers at a gig headlined by Pete Tong has been axed after a global outcry.

The record-breaking stunt in the Philippines would have been the highlight of a New Year’s Eve party hosted by the DJ, 58.

But campaigners said the midnight drop would release 130,000 pieces of plastic into the environment.

Paul Knibbs wrote on Facebook: “What a disgrace — words fail me.

"The world is already covered in garbage.”

Bosses at mega beach club Cove Manila insisted the drop would not harm marine life but abandoned it after pressure from officials in the Philippines — home to endangered sea turtles.

The club, which released 109,000 balloons in 2012, said the party, expected to attract 3,000 people, would still go ahead.
