New BitTorrent Bundle explores the untold story of the storied hip hop label, in music, art, and film from the new documentary, Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton, out today on iTunes.

Stones Throw Records started out as a eulogy; an imprint formed in 1996 by Chris Manak (Peanut Butter Wolf) to posthumously publish the work of his musical partner, Charles Hicks (Charizma). It started out in a bomb shelter. It started out with the back-, back-room crates. It became record-label-as-refuge: an LA-base for hip hop’s freaks, geeks, and outliers. It defined a generation of sound: from Madlib and Dilla to Aloe Blacc and Flying Lotus. For anyone who’s ever asked why labels still matter: you could say simply, and accurately, Stones Throw.

Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton, out today on iTunes, is the true story of one of music’s most storied imprints. Drawing on live concert film, archival footage, home video, photographs, and interviews with Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib, Jeff Jank, Kanye West, Questlove, Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, and more, the documentary unpacks the label’s history. Stones Throw is one man’s life’s work. Its legacy is larger than life.

To celebrate OVWAT’s digital release, we’re giving listeners access to Stones Throw’s back-room. Come dig. The BitTorrent Bundle features the first six minutes of the documentary, plus 3 tracks from the label’s history.

About BitTorrent Bundle
BitTorrent Bundle is an Alpha project, made with and for the web’s creative community. Our mission is to help artists connect directly with fans, inside the content they share.

Each BitTorrent Bundle allows artists to distribute content directly to the Internet. And each Bundle comes with a key. Fans can unlock artist content with an email address. The idea is to make each song a storefront, and each file more valuable, each time it’s shared. Got ideas for the next BitTorrent Bundle? Hit us up.
