OFFICIALS are still urgently working to find out if any Australians were onboard an Indonesian plane which crashed into the sea.

There are no reports of survivors after a Lion Air flight crashed into the sea on Monday with 189 people on board, just minutes after taking off from Jakarta.

"The Australian embassy in Jakarta continues to make urgent enquiries with local authorities to determine if any Australians were on board the flight," a DFAT spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
