Details of the upcoming meeting between Putin and Trump
HELSINKI, July 14 - RIA Novosti. The dialogue between the presidents of Russia and the US Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at the summit in Helsinki will last about three hours. This follows from the schedule published in the mobile application of the HELSINKI2018 summit.
"The meeting between Putin and Trump will begin at 13:15, and the meeting between Putin and Sauli Niiniste will begin at 4:30 pm," the schedule says.
It also follows from the mobile application that Trump and Finnish President Sauli Niiniste will meet from seven to ten in the morning.
What will the presidents talk about?
The summit in the Finnish capital on July 16 will be the first full-fledged meeting between Putin and Trump outside the framework of multilateral international forums.
As the assistant to the Russian president Yuri Ushakov said, the summit will be held in the presidential palace in the center of Helsinki. First, the leaders of the two countries will talk in the presence of translators, then the negotiations will continue in the format of a working breakfast, at which some members of delegations will attend. After that, the presidents will hold a joint press conference, which will answer at least four questions.
The central theme of the summit will be the current state and prospects for the development of Russian-American relations, the presidential aide added. And the goal of the forthcoming meeting, he said, is to start correcting the negative situation in international affairs, take concrete actions to improve them and establish a more or less acceptable level of trust, and also try to outline the steps that would allow Russia and the United States return to mutually beneficial cooperation.
Meetings of Putin and Trump
Previously, the leaders of Russia and the United States personally met twice. In July 2017, the presidents held full-fledged talks during the G20 summit in Hamburg, discussing the problems of bilateral relations, the Syrian and Ukrainian crises.
In November, Putin and Trump talked "on their feet" at the APEC summit in Danang. During the meeting, they approved a joint statement on Syria. After that, the heads of state spoke on the phone several times.
