CHILD killer Matthew Scully-Hicks has a family link to the Social Services office in the Baby Elsie scandal.

His husband Craig’s aunt worked in the same department, the Sun can reveal.

It was this aunt who suggested that the couple adopt a child, says Scully-Hicks, who last year was jailed for 18 years after beating adopted Elsie to death at 18 months.

A report last week savaged Vale of Glamorgan Social Services staff, who could have saved Elsie if they had flagged up a string of earlier injuries including a broken leg.

The report said the couple had been seen as “positive parents."

Scully-Hicks told cops after his arrest: “We were looking at the surrogacy route. Craig’s aunt worked for Vale of Glamorgan Social Services and she sort of mentioned, maybe we’d want to consider adoption.”

However, no mention of this link was made in the report.

Local MP David T.C. Davies said: “We need assurances proper procedures were followed... and also that conflicts of interest played no part.”

Vale of Glamorgan council refused to comment last night.
