Cristiano Ronaldo says he is a ‘happy man’
CRISTIANO Ronaldo insisted he is a "happy man" and is "confident" he will be cleared over an allegation he raped a woman in a Las Vegas hotel room.
US cops re-opened their probe after Kathryn Mayorga, 34, accused the footballer of attacking her in 2009.
Portugal captain Ronaldo, 33, maintains the sex was consensual and today said "the truth always come out”.
He made a surprising appearance at the pre-match press conference at Old Trafford on the eve of Tuesday's Champions League clash against former club Manchester United.
Ronaldo said: "We did the statement two weeks ago, I am very happy, my lawyers are confident and of course I am too.
"The most important is I enjoy my football, and my life. And of course, the truth always come out first.
"I know that I am an example, in the pitch and off the pitch.
"So I am always smiling, I am a happy man. I'm blessed that I play in a fantastic club, I have a fantastic family, I have four kids, I am healthy. I have everything.
"So the rest, it doesn't interfere on me. I have people who take care of my life."
Ex-model Kathryn Mayorga went to the cops shortly after the alleged attack, and later reportedly accepted a settlement of £287,000 from Ronaldo and signed a gagging order.
But she has filed court papers to overturn it and recently spoke to the city’s police force.
A statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said: “The case has been reopened and our detectives are following up on information being provided by the victim.
“At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description. A medical exam was conducted.”
The five-time world player of the year had previously confronted the allegations in an Instagram video on 3 October, hours after the lawsuit was filed.
At the time, he described the claims as "fake, fake news".
Earlier this month, Ronaldo's lawyer Peter S Christiansen has said the documents are "pure invention" and have been fabricated by hackers.
Mr Christiansen said: "The documents that allegedly contain statements by Cristiano Ronaldo and were reproduced in the media are pure inventions.
"In 2015 dozens of entities (including law firms) in different parts of Europe were attacked and saw a lot of information on their electronic equipment being stolen by a hacker.
"This hacker then tried to sell such information, having now a media outlet, irresponsibly publishing some of the stolen documents, significant parts of which were altered and/or completely forged.
"To absolve any doubt, Mr Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in 2009 in Las Vegas was consensual in nature."
