A HOLIDAY couple endured a 13-hour flight from hell — to land back where they started.

Paul Davies and wife Ana, 60, got the 7.30am easyJet service to Madeira from Bristol.

After nearly four hours, strong winds stopped them landing in the capital Funchal.

Paul, 71, said: “We circled for a while then the captain said we would have to go to Lisbon, an hour and a half away.

“We couldn’t get off the plane there and had to stretch our legs in the aisles. After an hour and a half they said the weather had improved in Madeira.

“We flew back but then the captain said things had deteriorated and eight aircraft ahead of us couldn’t land.”

The plane flew to Porto where 39 fed up customers got off and crews spent two hours moving luggage.

The couple got back to Bristol at 8pm and home to Cardiff at 10pm — 17 hours after they set off.

Paul added: “We travelled 4,000 miles and didn’t even get to our week’s holiday.”

EasyJet apologised for Monday’s mayhem. It offered passengers new flights or full refunds.
