Controversial Queensland senator Fraser Anning has been caught on camera hitting a minor in the face twice after the boy cracked an egg on the back of his head during an interview.

The tweet — posted by ABC reporter Henry Belot at 1.34pm today — is rapidly gaining likes after an angry public recoiled from a series of insensitive anti-Islam tweets the senator posted yesterday in response to the Christchurch mosque massacre.

In the video, the minor can be seen filming Mr Anning from behind as he is interviewed before cracking the offending egg on the back of his head.

Mr Anning recoils and turns to face the boy, before hitting him in the face. Onlookers leap to restrain the angry senator, yet he manages to get a second swipe in before he is pulled away.

Arms restrained a still furious Mr Anning kicks his legs at the boy until he is wrestled to a safe distance and the video cuts.

The tweet has accumulated 808K views so far and climbing, generating quite a response among the public with most in favour of the boy.

“Not the hero we asked for, but the hero we deserve,” @death_whistles tweeted, while another — @retrovirgo — said: “I hope Anning goes to prison for taking a swing at the egg king.”

A tweet by @iborgward shows the scene from behind.

Other tweets show the minor being wrestled to the ground by a gang of the senator’s supporters.

One particularly disturbing post by investigative journalist Paul Barry shows a close up of the terrified boy being held in a headlock and told: “Mate, you are nothing but a weak human f...... being. You p.....”

Mr Anning is yet to make a statement or comment on social media about the incident.
