MULTIPLE people were shot at a bank in the Midwestern US city of Cincinnati, according to media and police reports.

Police said on Twitter they were “investigating active shooter/officer involved shooting incident at Fifth Third Bank.”

After the incident was over, police said four people, including the gunman, were dead.

It’s unclear if the gunman shot himself or was shot by officers. One of the victims died at the scene.

The shooting occurred in the bank’s lobby and loading dock, according to police.

Local media reported that several people were shot and transported to hospital, and the scene was secured at 9:15am (11:15pm AEST).

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said the gunman was “actively shooting innocent victims” and that it was a “horrific” scene.

A large police presence cordoned off a portion of the city’s downtown, and several ambulances could be seen at the scene.
