TEL-AVIV, Feb 25 - RIA Novosti. Christian denominations administering the Jerusalem Temple of the Holy Sepulcher closed the shrine on Sunday in protest against the plans of the city authorities to levy a municipal tax from them, and announced the brotherhood of the Holy Sepulcher.

The church is called a violation of the "status quo" of the mayor's actions, which requires them to pay municipal taxes from all real estate, except for the churches themselves, and has already begun arresting accounts, demanding a penalty for previous years.

"A systematic and unprecedented attack on Christians in the Holy Land violently violates the most basic, ab antiquo (leading its history since ancient times) and sovereign rights, trampling on the delicate fabric of the relationship between the Christian community and local authorities. Therefore ... as a measure of protest, we decided on an unprecedented step of closing the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, "the statement said, signed by the Greek Orthodox, Armenian patriarchs of Jerusalem and the Catholic custody of the Holy Land.

Organizers do not say yet when the temple opens. Initially, it was assumed that the protest would last one hour.

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is managed by several denominations, is revered as the greatest shrine of Christians who believe that it will be erected on the site of the execution, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
