MOSCOW, April 2 (Itar-Tass) - RIA Novosti. China introduces duties on 128 American goods, this step should be seen as a response to the decision of the US administration to raise tariffs for imports of steel and aluminum, the Ministry of Finance of the PRC said.

"For 120 items, including fruit, the duty will be 15%, 8 items, including pork, - 25%," - said in a document published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

The department also noted that China "stands for the multilateral trading system," and countermeasures, "fair and consistent with the principles of the World Trade Organization."

The decision will come into force on April 2.

"Do not dig your own pit"

China had earlier advised the United States to refrain from measures that could provoke further deterioration in bilateral trade relations. "Otherwise, the US itself will be pleased with the dug for the other pit," official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China Gao Feng said at the briefing.

As for the general concern over the possible escalation of trade disagreements between China and the United States, the representative of the ministry recalled that Beijing had already fairly clearly outlined its position. "We do not want a trade war, China is currently actively developing partnerships around the world, is making efforts to create a new model of international relations, where cooperation takes into account the interests of all countries and is mutually beneficial," he said.

Beijing is ready for dialogue with Washington

China is ready to resolve trade contradictions with the United States on the basis of mutual respect and equality through dialogue and consultations, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chuning said March 26.

"As for the trade and economic relations between the US and China, including the existing contradictions, we have always said and said that we are ready to settle them (with them) on the basis of mutual respect and equality through negotiations and consultations," she said at a briefing.

A representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that "the door for negotiations and consultations is always open."

US President Donald Trump on Thursday signed a memorandum on "Combating China's Economic Aggression," which allows the introduction of restrictions on products from China. According to him, this could cost China about $ 60 billion. Trump noted that duties are introduced "in defense of America's national security."
