Cat owners ‘more likely to be into bondage’ than others because of brain parasite

IF you thought all your cat did was eat and sleep all day – think again.

It turns out your feline could be having an effect on sex your life without you realising it.

A study has revealed that cat owners are more likely to be into bondage and BDSM, and it’s all because of a parasite.

Published in the Journal Evolutionary Psychology, researchers found that a common parasite in cat’s brains, called toxoplasma gondii, is linked to humans finding dangerous and scary situations a turn on.

The study found that people who had toxoplasmosis, caused by the parasite toxoplasma gondii, had a “higher attraction to bondage, violence and, in men, to masochism and raping”.

The findings are based on data from more than 36,000 people from Eastern Europe, some of whom had toxoplasmosis and others who didn’t.

Researchers from the Charles University in Prague found: “Infected subjects are more often aroused by their own fear, danger, and sexual submission.”

But they clarified that toxoplasmosis wasn’t the solely cause of people liking BDSM or violent sexual situations.

They added: “It must be stressed that the Toxoplasmainfection explains only small part of the variability in BDSM-associated traits.”

Around one third of the global population is infected with toxoplasmosis, which is contracted from cat faeces, without exhibiting any symptoms.

And it can also be transmitted from infected raw meat such as lamb or pork.

A blood test can reveal if you’ve been infected, and in certain cases it can causes miscarriages or stillbirth.
