Spotify and Uber announced a partnership, in result of which the customers of smartphone taxi app Uber will be allowed to stream music from Spotify during their rides. The Spotify and Uber accounts can be linked together and the drivers will be able to access their playlists from Spotify’s apps during their Uber rides.

In simple words, Uber users who have linked their Spotify account can just push a button and get a ride with the car where their Spotify station is playing. Uber admitted that it was the first time the company has personalized the experience inside the car. The feature will first be introduced in 10 cities throughout the globe and be optional for drivers.

It looks like Spotify has been enduring a rocky time, as the recent news was about Taylor Swift pulling all of her albums from the service. The singer claimed that the service failed to fairly compensate musicians and songwriters for streams of the content they create. She called Spotify “an experiment” which she was not willing to contribute her life’s work to, because she didn’t feel fairly compensated for her work, and claimed that the writers, producers, artists and creators of music deserve better attitude and compensation.

In the meantime, Uber has also faced its own controversies recently. For example, the service was accused of an organized effort to poach drivers from its competitor Lyft. The events also included demonstrations against Uber by taxi drivers in a number of European cities and deactivating the driver’s account after he criticized the service on social media.

Both Uber and Spotify hope that the partnership will contribute to their development, as well as their valuations. The financial analysts said that Spotify’s last funding round one year ago valued the company at $4bn, though it has likely increased since. However, it pales next to Uber, as its most recent valuation was about $18bn.

The Wall Street analysts issued a research where they said they expect Uber’s annual gross revenues to reach a run-rate of $10bn by the end of next year – this means about $830 million per month by the end of the year, if not $10bn for the 12 months to that point. It should be taken into account that the company pays 80% of that back out to drivers who use the service.
