A BRIT mum who has been locked up in an Iran jail for more than 1,000 days is "petrified" by a new health scare, her husband has revealed.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 40, has found more lumps in her breast and is in constant pain but prison bosses refuse to let her see a doctor, her husband Richard said.

Richard, 43, vowed to step up his fight to free his British-Iranian wife.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Richard said Nazanin is in agony due to an undiagnosed neurological condition and needs a mammogram and MRI scan.

The news follows Nazanin finding lumps in her breast for the second time.

Richard said: "The prison doctor thinks the pain in her neck, arms and legs, particularly on the right side, are connected to her nervous system and she really needs to see a neurologist to find out what's going on.

“The trouble is the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who we believe are behind any decisions made by prison authorities, don’t care if she suffers.

“They don’t care if she is in pain or her life is at risk by not giving her medical treatment, they just don’t want her to die as that serves no purpose as it gives them no leverage.”

Charity worker Nazanin, from Hampstead, North London, has been held since April 2016 on fabricated charges of spying – which she denies.

She was jailed for five years and Richard sought the help of then-Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson but the Tory made things worse by wrongly saying Nazanin had been teaching journalists in Iran.

Tehran authorities used that to build a case against her.

Desperate Richard is now seeking diplomatic protection for Nazanin. He will demand Mr Hunt - who met Gabriella during a visit to Iran last month - takes the case to the UN Security Council.

Gabriella - who has been in the care of relatives in Tehran since 2016 - and mum Nazanin shared a cake during a 45-minute visit.

Gabriella cut the cake and "wished her mum to be free", according to Richard.

Dad Richard also revealed he and Nazanin would love a second baby to "heal" the horror of their separation.

He added: “She is desperate to have another baby and is really scared she will miss out and it will be too late.

“We would love another baby. It is a chance to be normal again, a chance to heal the hurt and pain of the past two years. Gabriella says she wants a little brother, as long as it’s a girl! She really wants to be a big sister.”
