AN eight-year-old boy and his stepdad have been blasted with shotgun outside a party overnight.

The pair had been at a teenager's birthday party when the shots were fired in Bilston, with chaos immediately erupting.

People had gathered at Bilston & District Labour Club last night for the party when trouble involving a 30-year-old man erupted.

The victim went outside to see what was happening when he was hit in the chest.

His eight-year-old stepson was hit in the arm by a shotgun pellet.

Both were rushed to hospital but are expected to be released later today.

One local took to Twitter after the shooting, saying: "Heard 2 loud bangs and lots of arguing/screaming last night".

Det Sgt Chris Jones, overseeing the investigation, says: “We’re still trying establish the motive for the shooting, but at this time we don’t believe that the man or his stepson were the intended targets.

“Thankfully, they have escaped really serious injury, but the person or people responsible for this are clearly dangerous and willing to recklessly use violence.

“There were lots of people at the party, and we’ve already spoken to some of them. I’d urge anyone who we have not yet made contact with to get in touch with us at the earliest possible stage.”

CCTV is being examined and officers have been searching for clues at the club overnight.
