AN uncontrollable child tearaway aged just 14 has been jailed after his distraught parents wrote to a judge begging for him to be put behind bars.

The lad, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to six months by Grimsby Youth Court after causing mayhem in his local neighbourhood.

His desperate parents told the Sunday Mirror that their son was “out of control” and that they had “no choice” but to pen the letter to the judge.

The boy had stolen from his own home to feed his cannabis habit, his mother and father said.

They even fitted their doors with double locks in a bid to keep the lad inside – but the unruly child would climb out or even smash the windows of his home to escape.

He committed burglary and aggravated theft in a drug-fuelled crime rampage, his parents say.

Despite being only 14, the boy was arrested more than a dozen times in the past 18 months.

His parents’ decided to request the jail sentence after he climbed on top of a roof and staged an eight hour protest – throwing tiles at a car below.

Shocking images have emerged in local media showing the damaged vehicle's caved-in windscreen.

In the letter to the court, they wrote: “We believe he needs a custodial sentence to wake him up to the real world.

“He needs to realise his actions have consequences, regardless of his age, otherwise you are going to be seeing a lot more of him as he gets older.

“Please do not fail our son, please act now. Let’s get him on the right track with a shock to the system.”

He was jailed on Wednesday by district judge Daniel Curtis for six months meaning he will miss Christmas with his family.

The child admitted affray over the roof stunt.

His mother, 33, and father, 41, claim previous slaps on the wrists from cops have simply not worked.

The dad said: “Nothing we did worked and whatever punishment he received from police in the past hasn’t made a difference.

“He needs to go somewhere where he can be put in his place and realise there are a lot of people out there bigger and badder who would make mincemeat out of him if he was in a real prison.”

District judge Mr Curtis told the teen: “I fear you are potentially a young man who has a career of crime ahead of him. You simply can’t go on like this.”
