HACKERS could now know vital information like your name, email address and birthday due to one of the world's biggest ever data breaches.

Security researchers have discovered that billions of people's personal information has been breached online by a marketing firm called Verifications.io which has since taken down its website.

Verifications.io claims to be an 'email verification' company.

The email addresses of 982million people were listed on its website.

Other personal information leaked on the site included names, gender, date of birth, employer, social media account details and home addresses.

Not everyone's whose email was leaked also had other details exposed.

The data breach was uncovered by several cyber security experts including Bob Diachenko.

"This is perhaps the biggest and most comprehensive email database I have ever reported," Mr Diachenko wrote in a blog post.

"Upon verification, I was shocked at the massive number of emails that were publicly accessible for anyone with an internet connection.

"Some of data was much more detailed than just the email address and included personally identifiable information."

Verifications.io has refused requests for comment about what it has done and very little is known about who actually runs the business.

Diachenko notified the shady company's support team that he had found the website and they told him that what he had found was 'public information' before swiftly removing any trace of the online company.

It is not yet known whether the breached data was accessed by any criminals.

However, hackers are often quick to take advantage of data leaks.

Fortunately, no passwords or credit card details were leaked on the database.

Marketing companies often employ firms like Verifications.io to find them genuine email addresses that they can spam.
